Sunday Evening
It’s a Sunday evening and those who don’t have anything to do are either sitting in front of the TV or surfing on the net. I just surfed through the channels and saw the highlights of last year’s IIFA awards. I didn’t know a Tulip flower has been named after Aishwarya Rai in ! Hey then I should be ready, because they might name a Watermelon after me.
Saw Iqbal yesterday. It’s a good movie. Natural performances. Most importantly no romantic angle forcefully inserted. The theme is Cricket and it has been allowed to be the Central theme. Also the struggles of the central character are not stretched to invoke sympathy among the audience.
I am reading a book by Jim Corbett right now. Its called “Man killers of Kumaon” or something similar (too bored to find it and write the name properly). Fantasizes you. You encounter a different kind of person in that book. One from the other category. Those who prefer the unknown territories of jungles to their cozy homes. This category not only includes hunters but also social workers. God knows how it is to be away from your house and in the middle of problems. Don’t they ever feel at some point of depression that it is better to sit at home? What gives them the strength to go on? And we all know it must be taking tonnes of strength and patience for such activities. Where does it all matter? I mean whether you live for yourself or dedicate your life to some cause. Probably at the death-bed when you look back at your life these people will be more satisfied than any of us. So is our life a total waste?
One more interesting thing is that all these people belong to earlier generation not ours. In case you are still confused I am talking about people who have given their entire life for some cause. It might not necessarily be social work. For eg., Lata Mangeshkar has followed music almost like a religion for her entire life. Can someone of our generation be so dedicated? Or are we too consumed by worldly pleasures? Can we be that focussed? What have we learnt exactly? To be all-rounders or Jack of all trades? Another aspect similar to this is belief. There are many people of my age who I know are atheists. No issue in it. But sometimes I think apart from doubting existence of God we in general we have learnt to doubt each and everything.
